The Invitation

A sunlit bed, a luxurious bath tub and Paris in the distance. Nothing more soothing than these three images. My schedule is mostly work into the evenings, and since it gets so dark early now, my after work hours consist mostly of curling up in bed under my grey fur throw with a friendly book and warm cup of tea.
I was speaking with a friend earlier today and our conversation wandered over to the idea of happiness. We've been so brought up to believe you can "have" happiness, and so with this belief we go looking. However, the places we tend to look seem to be all wrong in one way or another. The objects, the places, the people, the feelings. We try one after another, after another until we feel at the end of our ropes. But we're forgetting the most obvious place. The one that travels with you to buy the bag, to meet the friend and to take the vacation. These are all lovely things, and things to be appreciated and enjoyed, however, they don't bring that lasting feeling we're looking for. It's a temporary fix. A hit. A high. (Believe me I've done a whole lot of shopping to get that high) We're so busy looking outside of ourselves that we forget to look inside. The last place we look is right where we're standing. Right where we are. Who we are. What we want and what motivates us to get there. How is it, that this most simple of tasks, to take a good look at your own self and your own life, proves to be so hard?
